The New Queen of the Prom
Emma is autistic and HATES crowds of people. We were not sure whether we'd actually get her into her prom- and had scaled the full Cinderella ball gown down to a pretty 50's style dress. Anyway- as soon as she got in from school we went into full 'girly' mode. She got into the shower voluntarily and then we had a hair and makeup session. She wanted her make up more goth- but managed to get her to keep it minimal!!!!!!
We dropped Amy off at work and popped in to see Guy's mum. Emma calmed down a lot here- as I said I'd take her photo here rather than in the park!!!!!!
We had a spot of trouble getting her near the school door- but the teachers came out to encourage her. Her form teacher welled up and told her how pretty she looked.
I went to collect her 15 minutes early incase she was hating every minute and she asked why I was early. Apparently she'd danced with Terry all night and had had a fantastic time. This is SUCH a huge achievement for her. She loved every minute of it.
But best of all- when I picked her up, the teachers gave her a certificate to show me, and she'd been crowned Queen of the Prom. I could have burst with pride. They are used to seeing her firmly attached to her hat, scarf and gloves until June. I don't think she EVER removes her sweatshirt. It takes major effort to leave her coat behind.

Thank you Pam. We were so pleased that she'd had a great night more than anything. We've had months of her saying she wouldn't go.
Has your daughter had her prom yet?
