2/26 Chinese New Year- Birmingham

We decided to have a walk around the Chinese New Year Celebrations in Birmingham today. I'm really glad we went as it was a lovely afternoon. Lots of people happily celebrating in the centre of the city! It's years since I've been in the Arcadian Centre- and have spotted lots of places I'd like to go and visit. The celebrations themselves were free- so the only cost was the car park!
Waking up the Chinese Lions on the stage. The Mayor was invited to wake one of them up!

They were selling these little paper dragons and I tried really hard to get a photo of one- this is the best of the attempts!

We were stood above the arena- and had a fairly good view. Guy stood on a post- so his photos will be much better. But he took his in RAW and waiting for him to put them into Picassa for me.

We could hear the lion procession for ages coming along the street!

This was the closest shot I got of the faces!

The costumes were amazing.

One of the lanterns hanging over the arena.

One of the chefs in Hurst Street. I wish we'd bought something here- they smelt delicious.

These are the Back to Back houses- which we went to a while back. They were fascinating - each house has a different era. The shops were still trading for a long time. A lot of this housing was condemned and pulled down across the country- they have been preserved here.

They had people dressed up as the Chinese Zodiac characters to give out the leaflets about the event timetabling.
