Pype Hayes and Canon Hill Parks

Pype Hayes Park- Erdington. This was a gorgeous park- and we loved looking round. We walked along the river and watched a mother duck teaching 5 ducklings to swim upstream. She had them fanned around her and was keeping a careful watch.
Pype Hayes Hall is a grade 2 listed building and the estate dates back a long way. They sold some of the estate for what is now a sewage works! This building is now an adoption service centre.
Holly posing in the gardens- she's not so interested in this part of a walk.
Canon Hill Park we are more familiar with- as it is by the nature centre. Although we have never walked around all of it. There are plenty of places to stop for a bite to eat and a drink. I loved this sign.
A monument to the Birmingham soldiers killed in the Boer War
The Golden Lion- this dates back to the 16th C and was originally a clergy house. It was taken down brick by brick from it's original site in Digbeth and rebuilt in Canon Hill Park in 1920. A structural survey revealed that the frame was seriously damaged and declared unsound. It needs major rennovation and there is talk of resiting it back to Digbeth. The poor building needs a little love and to be left alone! I think it would be amazing as a heritage site- where you could maybe buy a pint of ale with an old coin. It should definately be preserved for people to see.
