I went to Karen's after work on Saturday and then Guy and the girls joined us later for a meal. After we'd all eaten we took the dogs for a walk around Cannock Chase. Karen lives right on the Chase border. Holly isn't great around other dogs- but they managed to run along together chasing balls. She wasn't so good in Roxy's house- not letting her in her own toy box. It was Holly's idea of heaven- a huge walk, water and then a new box of toys to root through!
The Chase has been drained to do essential works on the dam and apparently it will be late 2012 before it is up to it's previous level. The exposed part of the 'bed' is dangerous as there are quicksand patches. A girl and her horse had to be rescued recently.
Guy had a long chat with these twitchers- we thought we'd lost him! They were looking out for a very rare American gull that has only been sighted 4 times- but is on the chase at the moment. They had huge lenses on their cameras.
Holly and Roxy. Roxy had to be tempted to come near with a treat. She's wary around the bully dog!
This ruin is right next door to a beautiful 'luxury' home. I bet they hate seeing it. I wonder why no one has taken this project on. The land itself must be worth a fortune.
Part of the walk from Karen's is along the canalside. There are campers and fishermen and boats. She said that Roxy went into one of the campers tents and pinched their supper one evening!
This is the part right by Karen's house. It's a beautiful spot. She sees deer almost every day on her walk- and we join her every time we visit. But our combined dainty footsteps obviously keep the deer away. She saw them the day after we walked!
We've always meant to take a photo of the miner in Brownhills- but forget. This time Guy pulled in and took the camera! I think it is supposed to be unpopular with the locals- but we think he's great. He is facing the wrong way according to them- I think he is welcoming visitors rather than facing the residents . They also don't like the lighting only lighting him from the waist down. It's the same sculptor that did the Knight of the Vale statue near us.

That looks a really interesting walk around Cannock Chase - lovely photos. I have never been there and don't really live too far away. Hope everyone in your family is feeling better.
